Ahmedabad. Australian middle-order batsman Marnus Labuschagne said that while batting with Travis Head during the successful chase of 241 runs in the World Cup final against India, his mindset was to bat as if it was a Test match.
At the end of seven overs, Australia’s score was 47/3. Then, Labuschagne made a 192-run partnership with Head.
Head played a brilliant inning of 137 runs in 120 balls. Whereas, Labuschagne scored unbeaten 58 runs in 110 balls and ensured his team’s victory.
After this match-winning innings, Labuschagne said, “I was quite nervous when I was waiting to bat. But, when you get on the field, nothing really changes.”
Labuschagne said, “You’re looking at the ball and you’re just trying to get into the zone. My mentality was you treat it like a Test match. When you’re batting with Travis Head, usually But there is no run-rate pressure. When you are chasing a low score like 230 (241), unless you are really struggling, there will not be much run-rate pressure. It is just It was about being good and positive.”
Labuschagne was a last-minute inclusion in the World Cup squad following an injury to Ashton Agar and made key contributions at various stages of the tournament, resulting in Australia’s sixth World Cup title.
