What is Duckworth Lewis Method?
The Duckworth–Lewis method (DLS) is a mathematical formulation designed to calculate a target for the team batting in the second innings of a limited overs cricket match interrupted by weather or other conditions. This method was devised by two English statisticians, Frank Duckworth and Tony Lewis. It was first introduced in 1997 and in 1999 the Duckworth-Lewis method was officially adopted by the ICC i.e. International Cricket Council.
In the Duckworth-Lewis method, the calculation depends on the remaining overs and remaining wickets. Keeping this in mind during the match, a team speeds up or slows down its game. Therefore, the Duckworth-Lewis method also depends on both these factors. For this a table has been made in Duckworth-Lewis method. The value of a run, over or wicket depends on the number of overs and wickets remaining in it.
