How does fencing scoring work? In an individual bout, the first competitor to reach 15 points or the athlete leading after the end of the third round is declared the winner.
In team competition, each member of one team faces each member of the other team once. Each match is three minutes long or worth 5 points, with the score from each match adding up to the next match. If a team does not have 45 points at the end of the ninth bout, then the team with the highest points is declared the winner.
