What is decathlon?
Actually, an athletic competition lasting two consecutive days in which competitors participate in 10 track and field events. It was offered as a three-day event.
As per the 1912 Olympic Games, the decathlon events on the first day include 100 meters race, long (broad) jump, shot put, high jump and 400 meters race.
next day- 110 meter hurdles, discus throw, pole vault, javelin throw and 1,500 meter run.
Every competition is given a score for their performance according to a table established by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF). In simple words, men’s decathlon consists of ten events organized in two consecutive days.
Difference between decathlon and heptathlon
However, for women, the heptathlon is competed in place of the decathlon. The heptathlon event is a seven-meter event consisting of 100 meter hurdles, 200 meter sprint, 800 meter run, shot put, javelin, long jump and high jump.
