Ashwin is part of India’s squad for the two-match Test series against the West Indies. The first Test is to be played from today i.e. July 12 at Windsor Park in Roseau. On the other hand, Pujara was dropped from the team following India’s 209-run defeat to Australia in the World Test Championship (WTC 2023) final. He had failed to impress in this match. He scored 14 and 27 in both the innings respectively.
India’s fielding coach T Dileep also spoke about how Cheteshwar Pujara is very serious about his drills and practice. He recalled an incident that happened in South Africa. Dileep mentioned that even after working hard in the nets, Pujara makes sure that he takes 20 catches. He said- Ajinkya Rahane and Pujara were having dinner at 7:30 pm in South Africa. After that he came back to me and said- Sir, I should take 20 catches now.
Dilip further said – He did that too. After practice, he left the field only after completing 20 catches. I have never seen someone who is as alert as Cheteshwar Pujara. Pujara is currently representing West Zone in the ongoing Duleep Trophy 2023. The 35-year-old scored a brilliant 133 in his team’s second innings against Central Zone in the first semi-final of the tournament.
