New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Wednesday announced the Indian team for the T20 series against the West Indies. It does not include the names of many players who dominated the Indian Premier League. Players like Rinku Singh, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Jitesh Sharma could not find a place despite their stellar performances in IPL 2023. Even Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) star Nitish Rana looked disappointed with the team selection. Rana, who led KKR in the absence of Shreyas Iyer last season, made a cryptic post on Twitter. He wrote – Bad days make good days. Rana has represented India in 1 ODI and 2 T20Is. However, he last played for the Indian team in July 2021 against Sri Lanka. Rinku Singh’s finishing role at No.5 or 6 for KKR in IPL has impressed everyone, he was also not included in the 15-man squad.
It is believed that there is only a week gap between the West Indies series and the Ireland T20 series. There is a high probability that both Rinku and Vidarbha’s Jitesh Sharma will find a place in that team along with Ruturaj Gaikwad. Jitesh is not a part of this team as both Ishaan Kishan and Sanju Samson have been given preference. They will always have an advantage until they fail to perform.
The two players making international comebacks are fast bowler Avesh Khan and leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi. Bishnoi last played for India in the Asia Cup in September. Will play first-class cricket for Gujarat this season. The team has three wrist spinners, with Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal also being part of the 15-man squad. Akshar Patel has been selected in the team, whose current form compares better to Ravindra Jadeja in T20s. However, Jadeja has been rested along with Rohit and Kohli.
