New Delhi : The Modi government may consider continuing anti-dumping duty on Indian vehicle manufacturing companies and the alloy wheels coming to the market by importing them from China. For this, review is being done by the investigation branch of the Commerce Ministry. According to a report in news agency Bhasha, DGTR, the investigation arm of the Commerce Ministry, has initiated a review of the need to continue imposing anti-dumping duty on aluminum alloy wheels imported from China following complaints from the domestic industry.

These companies demanded a review from the government

Kosei Minda Aluminum Company, Maxion Wheels Aluminum India, Minda Kosei Aluminum Wheel and Steel Strips Wheels have filed a petition for initiation of definitive review investigation to continue the anti-dumping duty imposed on imports of ‘Aluminium Alloy Road Wheels’ exported from China. Has demanded. For this he has filed an application on behalf of the domestic industry.

Companies handed over evidence to the government

According to the Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR), a unit of the Commerce Ministry, the applicant companies have submitted prima facie evidence of dumping of the product from China despite existing anti-dumping duties. The notification issued by the government said that based on the complaint by the companies, it initiates a definitive review investigation to examine whether removal of the existing anti-dumping duty would lead to continuation or recurrence of dumping from China into India. Due to which the domestic industry may suffer loss.

Anti-dumping duty has been imposed on Chinese alloy wheels since 2015.

According to government rules, anti-dumping duty is generally imposed on a product for five years, unless the government decides to cancel it. Anti-dumping duty was first imposed in May 2015 on imports of aluminum alloy wheels from China. It was extended twice in 2019 and again in 2022. The current fee continues till April 8, 2024.

Anti-dumping duty on import of viscose rayon filament yarn for five years

In a separate notification, DGTR has recommended imposition of duty on import of ‘Viscose Rayon Filament Yarn’ from China for five years. Anti-dumping investigations are conducted by countries to determine whether domestic industries have suffered injury due to an increase in cheap imports. On the recommendation of DGTR, the Finance Ministry takes the final decision on imposing duty.
