Bengaluru,, In the 10th match of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) played on Sunday at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium here, captain Meg Lanning scored a half-century, while left-arm spinners Jess Jonassen and Radha Yadav took three wickets each, as Delhi Capitals defeated Gujarat. Beating Giants by 25 runs to secure third consecutive win. In this way Delhi Capitals reached the top of the points table on the basis of better net run rate.
Lanning hit six fours and a six during his innings of 55 runs in 41 balls. Last edition’s runners-up Delhi Capitals posted a modest score of 163/8 after being asked to bat first by Gujarat Giants. After this, the bowlers came into action along with Jonassen and Purple Cap winner Radha Yadav.

Jonassen had a personal score of 3-22 and Radha Yadav 3-20 in her four overs. Delhi Capitals restricted Gujarat Giants to 138/8 in 20 overs and secured their third consecutive win. They now have six points from four matches, the same as defending champions Mumbai Indians, who also have six points, but their scores are 0-402 compared to Delhi Capitals’ 1.251. UP Warriors and Royal Challengers Bangalore have four points each and are placed third and fourth respectively in the five-team competition. Gujarat Titans are at the bottom with zero points as they have lost all four matches so far this season.
Batting first, captain Meg Lanning handled the innings of Delhi Capitals, however, she lost the wicket of fellow opener Shafali Verma in the third over. Shefali had scored two half-centuries in four matches. She sent the ball bowled by Meghna Singh on her pads straight to Laura Wolvaardt, who was on 13. Lanning and Ellis Capsey added 38 runs for the second wicket. Earlier, Meghna became the victim of a full and wide after scoring 27 runs in 17 balls with the help of five fours. Judy Rodrigues could not last long, while Annabel Sutherland scored 20 runs in 12 balls. A late strike from Shikha Pandey (14 off 8) helped Delhi Capitals reach the score of 163/8 in 20 overs. Meghna was the best bowler for Gujarat Titans. He took 4-37, while Ashley Gardner took 2-37.
Gujarat Giants, chasing 164 runs, lost the wicket of Laura Wolvaardt on the third ball of the innings. With not a single run on the board, Shikha Pandey got a run through the gap between bat and pad to uproot the stumps. The score read 28/2 when captain Beth Mooney was out LBW to Jonassen in the fifth over. Jonassen then sent back Phoebe Litchfield for 15 and Gujarat Titans were reduced to 34/3. Ashley Gardner struggled alone, scoring 40 runs in 31 balls. Gujarat Gujarat Titans always kept chasing the game, but fell behind by 25 runs.
