According to the news published in The Hindu, Mahananda Vishal Patil, a woman from Dhanora village of Beed, Maharashtra, told that she never got a chance to be a part of sports after coming in youth. ‘When I heard that there was a kabaddi tournament in the village, I went to see it. Not a single player came to the tournament and the organizers were asking if anyone would like to play. I knew this was an opportunity for me to relive my childhood memories. Then I put my saree up and went to the ground, our team got second place in this tournament.
Sports filled new life in women
Ramesh Nagpure, a 32-year-old woman from Beed city, told that she got married at the age of 14. Her husband died at the age of 32. The women of our region, especially the widows, are prohibited from playing. I never thought that I would ever play an outdoor game again. It felt great to be lying on the ground laughing and shouting with joy and excitement.
So far, 11 tournaments have been played from 28 April to 15 June in 11 villages of four districts of Maharashtra namely Ummanabad, Beed, Nanded and Latur. In this, 854 women in the age group of 18 to 70 years have participated so far. At the same time, more than 2 thousand women have reached to encourage them.

At the same time, Mahananda Chavan, a member of the organizing committee of the tournament, said that the single women’s organization says, ‘During the last four years, we have been holding meetings to discuss patriarchal norms. In our meetings, we got the women talking among themselves and asked them to play games like musical chairs. Women slowly started feeling comfortable enough to speak openly about their feelings and share stories from their childhood.
