New Delhi| Star Indian boxers Neetu Ghanghas, Nikhat Zareen, Lovlina Borgohain and Sweety Boora won their semifinal matches to enter the finals of the Women’s World Boxing Championships today. The ongoing Mahindra IBA Women’s World Boxing Championship is being played at the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex in Delhi.
Neetu (48kg), who won her three consecutive bouts on RSC (referee stoppage), defeated defending Asian champion and last year’s World Championships silver medalist Alua Balkibekova of Kazakhstan in the semi-finals.
The Indian boxer won 5-2 after the bout review. Neetu had lost in the quarterfinals of the last World Championship against Alua Balkibekova of Kazakhstan, but she proved herself in the best way this time.
All the three rounds saw a tough fight between the two boxers. Balkibekova kept herself in check during her bout against Neetu and the 2022 Commonwealth Games champion looked the better of her opponent. He deftly landed accurate punches and showed amazing composure to reach the final of the competition for the first time.
Neetu will now take on 2022 Asian Championships bronze medalist Lutse Khan Altantseg of Mongolia in the final on Saturday.
