Women wrestlers being forced to withdraw their complaints, offered money, Bajrang Punia’s big allegation

Veteran wrestler Bajrang Punia on Tuesday claimed that seven women wrestlers, including a minor, who were allegedly sexually assaulted by Wrestling Federation of India president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, are being forced to withdraw their police complaints. Addressing a press conference at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, Punia alleged that some people from WFI approached the complainants and even offered them money. Olympic medalist Punia said that I do not know how this happened but the girls who have complained are being pressurized.

Bajrang Punia further said that some officials of WFI are going to the house of complaining wrestlers and offering money. He said that if anything happens to those girls, the police and the government will be responsible. I do not know how their names were revealed. Several national award-winning wrestlers are protesting at Jantar Mantar, demanding that the government make public the report of the inspection panel probing the sexual harassment allegations against Singh.

Wrestlers have nothing to do with the election

The protesting wrestlers on Monday warned that they would approach the apex court if an FIR was not lodged against the WFI president. Top wrestlers who have won medals for the country in various international events had said that they have nothing to do with the WFI elections and would continue to press Singh for a proper probe into the allegations of sexual harassment of women athletes.

The Supreme Court called the allegations serious

On Tuesday, seven women wrestlers complained to the Supreme Court about the non-registration of an FIR against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. The court termed these allegations as serious and issued a notice to the Delhi government and others. The Supreme Court first talked about listing the petition of women wrestlers for hearing on Friday, but after hearing some arguments of senior advocate Kapil Sibal, the court decided to hear the matter directly.
