The name of this prestigious tournament will be Jharkhand Asian Champions Trophy Ranchi 2023 this time. This will be the seventh edition of this tournament. No event has been held in Ranchi for a long time
Ranchi has previously hosted several Hockey India League matches from 2012 to 2015 and is also the home ground of city-based franchise Ranchi Rays. The stadium has hosted many domestic level events in recent years and to top it all, the city has a huge fan base for the sport. Jharkhand has a rich history of hockey. It has produced seven Olympians, who have proudly represented India. These include Jaipal Singh Munda, Silbanus Dungdung, Manohar Topno, Ajit Lakra, Nikki Pradhan, Salima Tete, Michael Kido and Marang Gomke.
Jharkhand government is cooperating
Hockey India President Padma Shri Dr. Dilip Tirkey has thanked the Jharkhand government for its cooperation in this big event. He especially thanked the Chief Minister Hemant Soren that he gave approval for this big event and also provided financial support from the government. Secretary Bholnath Singh said this
Hockey India General Secretary Bhola Nath Singh thanked Chief Minister Hemant Soren while reiterating the words of the President. He said that we are very grateful for the support and cooperation that we have received from the Chief Minister. When we expressed our interest in hosting the Jharkhand Asian Champions Trophy, the Hon’ble Chief Minister immediately agreed to provide all assistance required to host the event in the state. He has always been a strong supporter of sports. It is a great honor for us to host such a mega event.
Hockey India League will start soon
He said that I believe this is an important step to host more international hockey events in future in Ranchi. Also, I thank AHF for entrusting us with the responsibility of hosting this prestigious event. I am sure hockey fans will be delighted to see the Asian countries competing for the title of this tournament.
Marang Gomke will be organized at Jaipal Singh Astroturf Hockey Stadium
In a program at Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Astroturf Hockey Stadium, the state government tied up with Hockey India for the event. The government will spend Rs 20 crore for this event as financial assistance. Jharkhand’s Tourism, Art Culture, Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Hafizul Hasan, Sports Secretary Manoj Kumar, Sports Director Sarojini Lakra and Hockey India Treasurer Shekhar J Manoharan were present on the occasion.
Which countries will participate
Apart from India, Japan, Korea, China, Malaysia and Thailand will participate in this big event. Three matches will be played every day. The entire tournament will be organized on the round robin format. This means that each team will get a chance to play with their five opponents once each. A total of 21 matches will be played in the tournament.

All the matches of the Women’s Asian Champions Trophy 2023 will be played at Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Astro Turf Hockey Stadium, Morabadi, Ranchi. There will be no tickets for this. Means viewers will be able to watch all the matches for free without spending any money. The capacity of the stadium is 7000 spectators. The audience will get seats on first come, first serve basis. There will be entry through the pass in the VIP area.
