Ranchi: Japan women’s hockey team in the capital of Jharkhand Ranchi K Marang Gomke registered its third consecutive win in the ongoing Women’s Asian Hockey Champions Trophy 2023 at the Jaipal Singh Munda Astroturf Hockey Stadium, while in another match, Malaysia held Korea to a 1-1 draw. Japan continued its winning streak and defeated Thailand 4-0. For Japan, Mei Toriyama opened her team’s account by scoring a field goal in the 29th minute. Japan then increased its lead to 3-0 by scoring two consecutive goals in the 34th and 35th minutes.
This is Japan’s third consecutive win in three matches.
Captain Yuri Nagai scored the second goal for the team in the 34th minute and then Kana Urata scored a field goal in the 35th minute. After maintaining a consistent hold in the match, Japan’s attack continued in the fourth and final quarter as well. Japan, ranked 11th in the world ranking, registered an easy victory after increasing its lead to 4-0 thanks to Chiko Fujibayashi’s goal from a penalty corner in the 50th minute. This is Japan’s third consecutive win in three matches while Thailand’s third consecutive defeat.
Thailand team scored only one goal
World number-29 Thailand team has so far conceded 17 goals in three matches and has been able to score only one goal. Earlier in the first match of the day, Korea and Malaysia faced each other. Korea and Malaysia entered the competition to open their account, but both the teams were forced to share the points. After the first half remained goalless, Korea intensified its attacks in the second half and got the benefit from it. World No. 12 Korea took a 1-0 lead in the match with the help of Seo Suyong’s goal from a penalty corner in the 35th minute. However, Suyong had to face a green card in the 57th minute.
Malaysia drew 1-1 in the match
Meanwhile, Malaysia achieved a 1-1 draw in the match. Azhar Noor scored this goal for Malaysia on a penalty corner in the 58th minute. World number-19 Malaysia is still looking for its first win in three matches. The team had to face defeat in its first two matches. A total of six teams are participating in this tournament being played on the basis of round robin league stage. Apart from host India, these include teams from China, Japan, Korea, Malaysia and Thailand. After the league stage, the top 4 teams in the points table will qualify for the semi-finals. India is searching for its first title since 2016. The Indian team is the silver medal winning team of 2013 and 2018.
