The Indian team, which missed out on qualifying directly for the Paris Olympics by winning the gold medal in the recently concluded Asian Games in China, will have a golden opportunity to win the Asian Champions Trophy. The Indian team will get the advantage of playing on its home ground and the team will also have a chance to take revenge from Asian Games champion China and silver winner Korea.
Jharkhand players will play their first international match on home ground
Four players from Jharkhand have been selected in the Indian team announced for the Champions Trophy. Apart from Olympians Nikki Pradhan and Salima Tete, forward players Sangeeta Kumari and Beauty Dungdung are included. However, injured Beauty Dungdung is not part of the final 16-member squad. All will participate in an international hockey tournament for the first time in their home ground.

Nikki Pradhan of Khunti has represented India twice in the Olympic Games and is fully prepared for the Asian Championship to be held in Ranchi. His international career started in the year 2015. She was selected for Rio Olympics for the first time in 2016. Nikki is the first female hockey Olympian from Jharkhand. She has played Tokyo Olympics in 2022.
Salima Tete
Salima Tete of Simdega started her career with the junior Indian team in 2016. She has played for India in the 2022 Tokyo Olympics. She has represented India in many international hockey competitions including World Cup, Commonwealth Games. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had praised Salima for her excellent performance in the Tokyo Olympics.
Sangeeta Kumari
Sangeeta’s family of Simdega Karangaguri Navatoli was very poor. He started playing hockey with bamboo sticks. Selected in State Women’s Hockey Training Center in 2012. In 2016, Sangeeta made her debut in the junior team in the five-nation invitational tournament in Valencia. Scored eight goals in the Under-18 Asia Cup in 2016 and helped India win the bronze medal. She has represented India in many competitions like Commonwealth Games, FIH Hockey League and Junior Asia Cup.
Beauty Dungdung
Beauty Dungdung, resident of Simdega district, was selected in the residential training center in 2014. Beauty won gold medal in National Junior Hockey in 2017. Beauty got gold medal in Junior National in 2018 and silver medal in Khelo India in 2018-19. Got gold medal in Junior National in 2019. Beauty was selected in the Indian junior women’s hockey team and she scored a hat-trick goal and led the team to victory.
