New Delhi . On the occasion of Women’s Day, everyone bows in respect to women. Women proved their capability in every field. Be it national security, corporate sector, medical science or sports, women were seen dominating everywhere. At the same time, Indian women cricketers, who were searching for their identity for a long time, achieved a big milestone even though late.

On the occasion of Women’s Day, we are talking about how WPL proved to be a boon for women’s cricket.

The year 2023 can be considered an important year for women’s cricket in India. Under the captaincy of Shafali Verma, India achieved a special achievement by winning the inaugural Women’s Under-19 World Cup in South Africa.

Then, the senior women’s team won a historic gold medal in their Asian Games T20 debut in Hangzhou, China.

After this, he played Test against England and Australia on home ground after a gap of 11 years and won. It is noteworthy that BCCI had announced match-fee parity for male and female international players.

But if there is one moment that takes the top spot in this case, it is the start of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) in Navi Mumbai on March 4.

The long-standing wish of many cricketers and women’s cricket legends has finally been fulfilled. It became a reality, attracting everyone’s attention from all sides.

The stadiums in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai were packed with crowds during WPL 2023, showing the huge support for women’s cricket in India. In this year’s WPL, BCCI has organized the tournament in two new venues – Bengaluru and New Delhi with each venue hosting 11 matches.

Unlike last year, where women spectators were given free entry, tickets are now mandatory to watch any match at the venues.

Bengaluru has seen huge turnout for all the matches it has hosted in the first half, proving that WPL’s fan following is growing.

The M Chinnaswamy Stadium was packed when Royal Challengers Bangalore joined the game, with the home crowd supporting Smriti Mandhana and Co. just like they do for the men’s team in the IPL.

Former India captain Mamata Maben told IANS, “It’s like a dream come true, to see where the game is today. Many of my friends from Chennai and Hyderabad had come to Bengaluru to watch the match and after finishing their work, I went to WPL matches to meet them and it was a great experience to meet former cricketers while watching the matches.”
