Women’s Kabaddi team wins gold, India completes 100 medals for the first time in Asian Games

Hangzhou. India has crossed the 100 medal mark for the first time in the history of the Asian Games. India crossed this milestone in the 19th edition of this Mahakumbh of sports after the first hosting in New Delhi in 1951.
India’s 100th medal came from the women’s Kabaddi team. India won the gold by defeating Chinese Taipei 26-25 in the final.
India’s 100 medals in Hangzhou included 25 gold, 35 silver and 40 bronze. Of these 100 medals, male participants have won 47 medals (12-17-18), while women have won 44 (9-18-19), while seven have come in the mixed events.
At the end of the competitions on Friday night, India had won 95 medals and the men’s hockey team won the gold medal by defeating Japan in the final.
On Saturday, Aditi Gopichand Swamy won a bronze medal and then Jyoti Surekha Vennam took the count to 97 by winning a gold medal in the compound women’s individual archery event.
Ojas Praveen Deotale and Abhishek Verma took the count to 99 by winning gold and silver medals respectively in compound men’s individual archery. After this the women’s Kabaddi team took it to 100 points.
This is India’s highest medal tally so far in the Asian Games. India had won 70 medals in the previous edition of the Games in Indonesia in 2018.
