Mumbai (Uttam Hindu News): India’s world champion Sandeep Dive has been crowned the top seed in the Rs 7 lakh prize money Maharashtra Open Carrom Challenger, organized by the Maharashtra Carrom Association (MCA), which is scheduled to begin here from Tuesday.
Former world champion Prashant More (India) has been given second seed. Yogesh Pardeshi (India) has been given third seed. After that R.M. Shankar (India) has been seeded fourth and Mohammad Gufran has been seeded fifth.
International players Mohammed Muntasir and Ibrahim Ali, both challengers from Maldives, are seeded sixth and seventh, while Sri Lanka’s Shahid Hilmi is seeded eighth.
A total of 503 top quality carrom players from 18 states across the country and abroad have confirmed their participation in the inaugural edition of the event, which includes the men’s singles competition.
The winner of this Challenger competition will be awarded a grand champion prize of Rs 1.50 lakh and a trophy. The runner-up will receive a prize of Rs 1 lakh and a trophy. The third place winner will be awarded Rs 75,000 and the fourth place winner will be awarded Rs 50,000. Each of the four losing quarter-finalists will be awarded a prize of Rs 25,000.
Additionally, players who reach the 32nd round will be given cash prizes. Players will receive a prize money of Rs 1,000 for each white slam or black slam in the first round and Rs 2,000 for each white slam or black slam from the semi-finals.
