ICC ODI Cricket world cup 2023 The countdown has started. The great fight is going to start in just a few days. The much-awaited global series will begin on October 5 with the match between previous finalists England and New Zealand. This match will be played at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Team India will start its campaign against Australia on 8 October in Chennai. Before facing each other in the opening matches of the World Cup, the two teams played a three-match ODI series, with India emerging victorious 2–1. As the World Cup is approaching, all the teams are busy finalizing their preparations. Former captain of Team India and member of the 1983 World Cup winning team Sunil Gavaskar Has selected India’s playing eleven for the first match of the World Cup against Australia.
opening pair important
Sunil Gavaskar said on Star Sports, ‘The top three batsmen in any team are very important. A good start by the openers helps the other players to play freely. The contribution of the opening pair is most important. You can choose three fast bowlers, which could be Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah. Gavaskar has advocated Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill as opener batsmen.
Kishan and Suryakumar missing from Gavaskar’s playing eleven
Gavaskar said, ‘If they want to go with two fast bowlers, they already have Hardik Pandya. So an extra spinner can be included. You can keep Ashwin in the playing eleven. Notable players absent from Gavaskar’s Ideal XI were Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav. On the other hand, former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan said that the Men in Blue should proceed with five proper bowlers as proper factors can play a vital role.
Pathan has confidence in seven batsmen
Irfan Pathan said on Star Sports, ‘I agree with the top seven. (But) I want the Indian team to field with a proper five bowlers. You have Hardik as the sixth bowler but you should go with bowlers with wicket-taking ability. Now on the pitches you will get, there is a possibility of dew so you need a solid bowling throughout the World Cup.
Irfan Pathan wants to go with extra bowler
Pathan further said, ‘So go with the main bowlers, even if they are three fast bowlers which include Siraj, Shami and Bumrah. If you want someone to come into the team with Kuldeep Yadav, then go with a proper bowler in the form of Jadeja if there is a turning track. Go with proper bowlers who only think about wickets. Your top-7 batsmen can take care of the runs.
India made changes in the team at the last moment
