Batting first in the Women’s Premier League, Gujarat Giants scored 147 runs for four wickets. In response, the Delhi team was dismissed for 136 runs in 18.4 overs. This is the second victory of Gujarat. While this is Delhi’s second defeat in five matches. For Gujarat, Wulfart scored 57 runs in 45 balls which included six fours and a six.
Gardner scored an unbeaten 51 off 33 balls with the help of nine fours. Both of them made an important partnership of 81 runs for the third wicket. Apart from these, Harleen Deol scored 31 runs in 33 balls. Jess Johnson took two wickets for 38 runs from Delhi. Only four Delhi batsmen reached double digits, in which Marijan Kapp scored the highest 36 runs.
Arundhati Reddy scored 25 runs in 19 balls in the last over and once upon a time Gujarat’s face was strengthened. Gardner also did wonders in bowling and took two wickets for 19 runs. Apart from them, Kim Garth and Tanuja Kanwar also took two wickets each. Delhi did not have a difficult target.
Delhi scored 78 runs in the first 10 overs but lost four wickets in the meantime. Shefali Verma was able to score only eight runs and was bowled by Tanuja Kanwar (two wickets for 29 runs). Captain Meg Lanning scored 18 runs before being lbw out to Sneh Rana. Ellis Capse hit Gardner for two consecutive sixes but his innings was also limited to 22 runs due to run out.
Jemima Rodrigues returned to the pavilion after scoring only one run. Kapp held one end but wickets kept falling from the other end. Kaap was also run out in the 14th over as the seventh wicket. Kapp hit four fours and a six in his 29-ball innings. Arundhati raised Delhi’s hopes by sharing a 35-run partnership with Shikha Pandey (8 not out).
Arundhati caught the last ball of the 18th over at extra cover. Then Delhi was 15 runs away from the target. Gardner gave victory to Gujarat by dismissing Poonam Yadav in the next over. After losing the toss, the team of Gujarat Giants, who came out to bat first, scored 32 runs in six overs of the powerplay, losing the wicket of Sophia Dunkley (four). Dunkley gave an easy catch at mid-on in the first over of Marijan Kapp.
In front of Delhi’s tight bowling, Gujarat’s batsmen had to struggle to score runs. Wolfart and Harleen shared a 49-run partnership for the second wicket but for this they played 53 balls. Johnson broke this partnership by getting Harleen caught behind the wicket.
After Gardner came to the crease, the run speed increased and Wolfart also showed speed. The South African batsman also hit Johnson for the only six of the innings in the 16th over, bringing the team’s score to 100 runs. Wolfart completed his half-century off 41 balls. Arundhati Reddy ended her innings by bowling Wolfart. Gardner completed his half-century by hitting a four on Johnson in the next over.
