Heavy rains disrupted the wrestlers’ strike on Monday and despite some chaos, the players got more support when former Indian cricketer and Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu President of Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh Demanded for custodial interrogation. A large number of farmers and khap members present among the supporters were seen looking for a place to avoid the rain in the afternoon. Mattresses were removed from the road and kept in makeshift sheds.
Wrestlers frozen in the rain
The elders were taken inside the shed and in the midst of the commotion, a big fan fell on one of them. Committed wrestlers said they will not move from the protest site and face the weather. Bajrang Punia told PTI that we will not move from here. We will sleep here, even if we have to sleep on wet mattresses for this. We are not going to leave from here. The weather is going to remain like this for the next two days but we are ready to face these hurdles.
The statement of the victims has not yet been recorded
Officials said the Delhi Police is yet to record the statements of the victims who have alleged sexual harassment against Brij Bhushan. Police can interrogate Brij Bhushan regarding the FIR, although no official notice has been given to him yet. Sidhu spent more than two hours at the protest site and was seen discussing with Vinesh Phogat and Sakshi Malik. Sidhu later asked why Brij Bhushan had not been arrested yet despite a case being registered under the POCSO Act.
Two FIRs lodged against BJP MP Brij Bhushan
Two FIRs are registered against BJP MP Brij Bhushan. Prior to Sidhu, Priyanka Gandhi and Bhupinder Singh Hooda from Congress, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Rashtriya Lok Dal leader Jayant Chaudhary, former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satyapal Malik, former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat, Delhi government ministers Atishi Singh and Saurabh Bhardwaj have also reached the protest site in the last eight days. Sidhu questioned the police over the delay in registering the FIR against Brij Bhushan.
Questions arising on Delhi Police
Sidhu said why the FIR was delayed? Not making the FIR public shows that the FIR is frivolous and does not corroborate the complaint of the complainant. He should be arrested first and custodial interrogation should be done. He should resign so that a fair investigation can take place. He also questioned the intention behind saving Brijbhushan.
Sidhu accused the investigating officer only
Sidhu said, ‘The intention is suspicious and the aim is to protect the accused. What things are being hidden. Why the officer who has delayed the FIR is not being prosecuted under Section 166 IPC as he was bound to register an FIR which is an offense as per Hon’ble Supreme Court judgment in Lalita Kumari v. State of Uttar Pradesh Mandatory in case of cognizable offence.
