The petition demanded that the trials should be conducted in a fair manner in which no exemption should be given to any wrestler and videography of the entire process should be done.

Sujit’s father Dayanand Kalkal told PTI, “These wrestlers had said in their protest at Jantar Mantar that their fight was for justice and for the benefit of junior wrestlers and now they want to sideline these junior wrestlers.” That’s why we had to approach the court against this decision. He said, ‘From the very beginning in his protest, his intention was to get exemption from trials, that’s why we never supported him. People were blind, they could not understand his intentions.
Dayanand Kalkal said, ‘If these famous wrestlers reach ahead by defeating upcoming wrestlers, then no one will complain. Rather it would be a matter of pride that our child got to compete against such big renowned players. That’s why trials should be fair.
There are 6 wrestlers who are capable of defeating Bajrang
The Indian Olympic Association’s ad hoc committee on Tuesday decided to exempt Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist Bajrang (65kg freestyle) and Vinesh Phogat (53kg) from the selection trials for the Asian Games to be held here on July 22 and 23. Trials will be conducted in all 18 weight categories, including 65kg and 53kg, as directed by the ad-hoc panel, but the winners will not participate in the Asian Games, but will be ‘standby substitutes’.
Hisar’s 19-year-old Panghal and 21-year-old Sujit, who is training in Sonepat, questioned the decision of the ad-hoc panel through separate videos. Panghal said that he is capable of defeating Vinesh in the trials. On the other hand, Sujit said that there are at least five-six wrestlers in the country in the 65 kg category who are capable of defeating Bajrang.

On Bajrang being selected in the team for the Asian Games without any trial, wrestler Vishal Kaliraman said, ‘I also play in the weight category from 65 kg and Bajrang Punia has been given direct entry without any trial for the Asian Games. They have been protesting for a year, while we are rehearsing. We appeal for a trial… We do not seek any favors or benefits. There should be at least a trial otherwise we are ready to go to court… We will appeal before the court. We are practicing since 15 years. If Bajrang Punia denies that he will not play in the Asian Games then only someone else will get a chance.
3 wrestlers including Sakshi did not get exemption
However, the ad-hoc committee has not given any exemption to 4 other protesting wrestlers Sakshi Malik, her husband Satyavrat Kadian, Jitendra Kinha and Bajrang’s wife Sangeeta Phogat. This time the Asian Games are going to be held in Hangzhou, China from 23 September. For this, trials are to be held from July 22 to select the wrestling team. The ad hoc committee took this decision just 4 days before these trials.
