Hangzhou: Friday was a disappointing day for Indian wrestling at the Asian Games 2023. Four wrestlers including Bajrang Punia had to face defeat. India’s Aman Sehrawat lost to Japan’s Toshihiro Hasegawa by 10-12 points in the semi-final match of men’s freestyle 57 kg category on Friday. Now in the bronze medal match they will have a match against the winner of the repechage round.

In women’s wrestling, Sonam lost her women’s freestyle 62 kg match to North Korea’s Hyongyong Mun 0-7. She will play in the bronze medal match against the repechage winner. Kiran lost her women’s freestyle 76 kg semi-final match to Jamila Bakbergenova of Kazakhstan by a margin of 2-4 points. She will next fight in the bronze medal match. Bajrang Punia became the fourth Indian wrestler to lose the semi-final match and reach the bronze medal match. He lost his men’s freestyle 65 kg bout to Iran’s Rahman Amouzadkhalili by a margin of 0-8 points.
