Head became the first centurion of WTC final
Travis Head, who has so far scored five Test centuries on his home ground, scored a century outside Australia for the first time. Batting at a strike rate of around 65 in Test cricket, the 29-year-old Adelaide batsman hit his sixth Test century with the help of 14 fours and a six. He also became the first batsman to score a century in the final of the World Test Championship. By the end of the first day’s play, Head and Smith had an unbeaten partnership of 251* in 60.5 overs. In the last session, both talked in boundaries and added 4.62 runs per over.
Strong start of Shami-Siraj
Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj gave India a strong start. Usman Khawaja and David Warner, looking uncomfortable in front of his wavy fast balls, had to wait for 16 balls to add the first run on the score board. Warner took two runs by glancing a ball from Shami. In the same over of Shami, Warner was badly beaten three times. In this WTC cycle, Siraj sent Khwaja to the pavilion early after scoring 1608 runs in the last 16 matches. In his second over, a ball fell on the line of off-stump and came out lightly and kissing the edge of Khawaja’s bat, got into the hands of wicket-keeper Shrikar Bharat. Khwaja could not open the account.
