Australia on top of the table
The top two teams of the ICC Test Championship will be decided after playing 24 series and 61 Test matches over two years. The top two teams that will play the final are yet to be decided but there are several important matches lined up in the next few weeks which will decide the top two teams. Australia is currently leading the points table while India is at the second position. Both these teams will play a four-Test series in Nagpur from Thursday.
Right now six teams have a chance to qualify for the finals. The top two teams will face tough competition from third-placed Sri Lanka and fourth-placed South Africa. South Africa are scheduled to play two Test series against defending Championship champions New Zealand and the West Indies in February and March. On the prospect of securing a place in the Test Championship final, Australia captain Pat Cummins said, “The prospect of playing in the World Test Championship final has inspired us a lot over the years, especially after missing out on over-rate last time around.”
India was in the final last time
Indian skipper Rohit Sharma is looking forward to playing in his second successive World Test Championship final. He said, ‘It will be special to lead the Indian team in the World Test Championship final. We have progressed and developed as a team and we will have our chance to pick up the mace (world championship mace) at The Oval in June but we know we have to deal with a strong Australia side first. I am thrilled at the prospect of making it to the finals and hope we create history.
