WTC Final: Ravi Shastri angry at coach, player and BCCI

Oval: Former India head coach Ravi Shastri is quite disappointed after suffering a crushing defeat at the hands of Australia in the final of the World Test Championship. He has expressed doubt that there will be more time between the Indian Premier League (IPL) and this WTC in future. Shastri said this would be possible only when there is a change in the mindset of all the stakeholders (BCCI and IPL franchises) involved. After India’s massive 209-run defeat against Australia at The Oval, head coach Rahul Dravid said the ideal situation would have been for the team to reach England at least two weeks early and play a few practice matches. Did not agree and put the responsibility on the players. Shastri told Star Sports, ‘This is never going to happen. You have to be realistic. You will get 20 days only when you are out of IPL. It is a matter of your choice.

Shastri also indicated that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will have to hold talks with the IPL teams to decide the way forward. It also depends on the institution. I am sure BCCI will review it in future. If the WTC final is held after the IPL in the month of June, then there should be some rules for the franchises who reach the final of this league in that season.

Earlier, Shastri had also criticized the shot selection of the Indian top-order batsmen, who let the team down. Shastri said, ‘The behavior of the pitch surprised me. Rohit Sharma and Cheteshwar Pujara must be regretting their shots. He was batting well and got out playing a bad shot.
