WTC Final: Ravindra Jadeja’s fear in Australian camp, will Ashwin not play the final, who will get playing XI place

Will Ashwin sit out?
When asked by Australia’s assistant coach Daniel Vettori, he said, ‘We are talking about it. I think Jadeja will play because he is also a useful batsman. He further said, ‘There can be either Shardul Thakur or Ashwin for the fourth bowler and all-rounder, but both are good options.’ Ashwin has taken 18 wickets in seven Tests in England, but he has played only one match at The Oval. Vettori went to the extent of saying, “Ashwin is a brilliant bowler and will be the first choice in most teams, but considering the team combination in Oval conditions, he might have to stay out.”
Jadeja’s figures against Australia
One wicket of Jadeja, famous for his deadly arm ball, will definitely be remembered by the Australian team. In the previous encounter, veteran Steve Smith was at the crease after scoring 37 off 105 balls in the first innings of the Nagpur Test. It is not an easy thing to dodge Smith, who has spent almost two and a half hours at the crease. Jadeja came to the fore and bowled Smith with his stock ball.
Smith went to play for the turn, but the ball went straight. Obviously Jadeja dominated after that and took five wickets and helped India win that Test by innings. And yes, whatever Jaddu’s overall record in England, he has 11 wickets in two Tests at The Oval.
What do experts say on playing XI
Former chief selector MSK Prasad feels that India should not pick a playing XI based on pre-determined estimates. Prasad told PTI, ‘Last time we had selected two spinners and three fast bowlers, but the rain came. We should have changed our plan, but we stuck to the same playing XI. Now this is a thing of the past. Pitch and conditions are important.
We don’t know how the five days will be. That’s why we should not make predictions and take decisions only after understanding the circumstances. Picking KS Bharath for the wicketkeeper is a pretty obvious decision. You need a wicketkeeper who is fit for 100 overs and does well. It is a Test match and we need to think from this aspect.
