Young players have adopted IPL mindset: Manoj Tiwari

Kolkata. On BCCI’s decision to make it mandatory for centrally contracted and targeted players to play domestic cricket, former Indian cricketer Manoj Tiwari has said that he himself has been expressing his concern in this regard for the last few years.

Tiwary had posted on X earlier this month expressing his outrage that the Ranji Trophy should be removed from the calendar from the next season. He had highlighted many points in his post, which included poor umpiring, the schedule of matches in North and East India in the cold and the schedule of ‘A’ Tour.

Due to the A Tour schedule, many teams were forced to play without their key players. Bengal itself also played without Mukesh Kumar, Akash Deep and Abhimanyu Easwaran during the tournament. Due to this post of Tiwari, a fine of 20 percent match deduction was also imposed on him.

After retirement, Tiwari said in his felicitation ceremony, “If I had not posted on social media, such guidelines would not have come from the BCCI. Due to my post, the BCCI Secretary was forced to take such a decision. At this stage of the tournament His decision appears to indicate that he is concerned about Ranji Trophy not being given much importance by other players, including high profile players who have been successful in the IPL.”

Earlier this month, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, in an email, had expressed concern over players giving preference to IPL over domestic cricket. Shah had written in an e-mail, “Some players have started giving more preference to IPL than domestic cricket. This is a step which was not expected. Domestic cricket is the cornerstone of Indian cricket.”

Through this e-mail, players like Ishan Kishan and Deepak Chahar were at the center who, despite being fit, declared themselves not available for Ranji Trophy. Kishan has not played any cricket since he withdrew from the South Africa tour citing mental health issues, while Deepak Chahar was a part of the Indian team in the home series against Australia in November but after that he too did not play any cricket. Have played.

Tiwari said, “I have noticed that young players have adopted an IPL-centric mindset. Those who do not play IPL, they go to Dubai or any other place to spend their free time. This trend is badly affecting the relevance of Ranji Trophy. Yes, IPL is a big platform for all of us but I urge the BCCI President and Secretary to increase the relevance of Ranji Trophy.”
