Ahmedabad, 25 November (Hindustan Reporter). India’s premier pickleball organization All India Pickleball Association (AIPA) in collaboration with Pickleball Association of Gujarat (PAG) will organize the 7th National Pickleball Tournament from 1st to 3rd December 2023. The three-day tournament will see over 250 athletes from 20 states across India compete for the title.
Players can compete in 6 different categories, Under-19 Boys and Girls, Under-19 Men and Women, 35 Plus Men and Women, 50 Plus Men and 60 Plus Men. AIPA President, Arvind Prabhu said, “We are getting a very good response from players wanting to participate in the state and national competitions. The game is growing, and we want to ensure that it reaches every corner of India.”
The tournament will feature players like Asian gold medalists Tejas Mahajan and Vanshik Kapadia, mixed doubles champions Snehal Patil and Kuldeep Mahajan, India doubles champions Mayur Patil, Vrushali Thackeray, Isha Lakhani, Himansh Mehta, Under 19 champions Aditya and Arjun, Rohit Patil . Anush Popli from Dhanbad, Jharkhand, Bihar champion Avinash Kumar and singles champion Sonu Kumar Vishwakarma will also be seen in the tournament.
Saurabh Trivedi, President, Pickleball Association of Gujarat (PAG) said, “Pickleball as a sport is growing rapidly in the state of Gujarat and we wanted to show that the state is developed to organize national level tournaments . There are some great players in the state who are playing well and we want to nurture the new crop and give them the exposure they need.”
What is pickleball game?
Pickleball is a combination of tennis, table tennis and badminton. This game is played with a plastic ball and racket with holes. The game is played both indoors and outdoors on badminton-sized courts and slightly modified tennis nets. Two or four players use solid paddles made of wood or composite materials to hit a perforated polymer ball over a net.
