8th Kerala State Film Award for superstar Mammootty

Thiruvananthapuram. Superstar Mammootty on Friday won the 8th Kerala State Film Awards for his stellar performance in the film ‘Nanpakkal Nerthu Mayakkam’.
Mammootty is turning 72 in September. But even today his charm is intact. There was talk since the beginning of this week that this time he would take home the Best Actor award because of the kind of performance he had. The superstar last received the state award in 2009.
Architect-turned-actress Vincy Aloysius, who was noticed in a talent show aired on a TV channel in 2018, entered Malayalam films. She has received the Best Actress Award for her role in ‘Rekha’.
The 27-year-old actress said, “I was hoping that the film ‘Rekha’ would win some awards because it was a great team effort and when the award has come to me, nothing is bigger. This is my first award from the Government of Kerala.
Mahesh Narayanan has won the Best Director award for the film ‘Ariyapu’, which tells the story of a middle-aged couple caught in the midst of the Covid pandemic.
Nanapakal Nerthu Mayakkam, which won Mammootty the Best Actor award, was adjudged the Best Film. The film was directed by Lijo Jose Pellissery.
Gautam Ghosh, chairman of the award jury, said that he was very happy to see such a wide variety of films, and even more happy to see such talented people working in Malayalam films. Ghosh said, “Maybe next year I will come here and direct a film.” (IANS)
