SBI issued circular
SBI said in a circular, ‘It has been decided that people will be given the facility to fill notes of Rs 2,000 at a time without any requisition slip. This facility will be for an amount up to Rs 20,000. The bank has also clarified that people do not need to provide any ID while exchanging Rs 2,000 notes. From Tuesday, May 23, banks will start exchanging and depositing Rs 2,000 notes. Banks have made preparations for this.
Time till 30 September
The Rs 2,000 note will remain legal tender till September 30, while Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes were invalidated overnight in November 2016 demonetisation. State Bank of India (SBI) has written to the Chief General Managers of all its local head offices, saying that the general public will not need any form to exchange Rs 2,000 notes up to a total of Rs 20,000 in one go. The Reserve Bank has not fixed any limit for depositing such notes in its account.
According to sources, one can stand in the queue any number of times to exchange Rs 2,000 notes. Note exchange facility has been available since May 23, but many customers who reached their branches on Saturday to exchange Rs 2,000 notes were explained and sent back.
