Finance Minister Ishaq Dar made this announcement while addressing the public on TV on Sunday morning. The new prices have become effective from 11 am on Sunday. With this, the price of petrol in Pakistan has gone up to Rs 249.80 per litre, high-speed diesel to Rs 262.80 per litre, kerosene to Rs 189.83 per liter and light diesel to Rs 187 per litre. Last week, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the ruling coalition led by his party was ready to accept tough conditions from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to restore the bailout package approved for Pakistan. Dar said that the government had not changed the prices of petrol from October last year till January 29 this year and had also reduced the prices of diesel and kerosene. Long queues of vehicles formed at petrol pumps ahead of the price hike.
