The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced that Indian residents can update their Aadhaar card details online free of cost for the next three months. Aadhar card is a 12 digit unique identification number given to every enrolled resident in India. The process of updating Aadhaar documents online at physical Aadhaar centers usually charges Rs 50 and involves uploading of Proof of Identity (PoI) and Proof of Address (PoA) documents to verify users’ demographic details. can be re-verified, especially if their Aadhaar card was issued more than a decade ago.
While UIDAI claims that updating demographic details online will help in “ease of living, better service delivery and increased authentication success rate”, it is important to note that the process of updating demographic details is not mandatory. However, the process is simple and can be completed in a matter of minutes.
To update Aadhaar demographic details online, users need to visit the Aadhaar self-service portal on the UIDAI website and log in using their Aadhaar number and an OTP.
Users can then click on Update Documents and check and verify the existing details using the drop-down list before selecting and uploading the scanned copy of the original document for verification.
Once the process is complete, users should note down the service request number to track the progress of updating their details.
According to UIDAI, updating Aadhaar demographic details online which usually costs Rs 50 at physical centers is free till June 14.
