New Delhi (Uttam Hindu News): Aaoge Jab Tum O Sajna…fame classical singer Ustad Rashid Khan has passed away after a prolonged illness. He was suffering from prostate cancer. He was undergoing treatment for a long time. He was admitted to the hospital in November itself. He breathed his last in a hospital in Kolkata at the age of 55. According to the information, he was kept on oxygen support for several days. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has also expressed grief over the demise of Ustad Rashid Khan and said that it is a loss for the entire country.
Apart from classical music, Ustad Rashid Khan also gave many hit songs to the Indian film industry. These also include the song ‘Aaoge Jab Tum Sajna’ from the film Jab We Met. Besides, remembering you. Tu Banja Gali is his famous song of Banaras.
According to the information, he had a cerebral attack last month. After this his condition worsened. Ustad Rashid Khan belonged to the Rampur-Sahaswan Gharana. The founder of this gharana is considered to be the great grandson of Inayat Hussain Khan. Rashid Khan was born in Badaun, Uttar Pradesh. He took his initial education in music from his maternal grandfather, Ustad Nisar Hussain.
Ustad Rashid Khan joined the academy in 1980 at the age of 14. He remained associated with the academy till 1994. Let us tell you that the gharana to which he belonged is considered to be related to the singing style of Gwalior Gharana. He is also known for combining the pure Hindustani style of music with Sugam Sangeet. Apart from Padmashree, he was awarded the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award.
