Dhoni had filed a civil suit in 2014 to permanently restrain Sampat Kumar from making any scandalous and objectionable statements related to spot-fixing.

In 2014, Madras High Court had banned Sampath Kumar from making any statement against Dhoni. But despite this, Sampat Kumar had filed an affidavit in the court in which derogatory remarks were made against the judicial system and a prominent lawyer representing the state in the cases against him. When this was brought to the notice of the Madras High Court, it took it on its file in December 2021.

On July 18, 2022, Advocate General R. After getting consent from Shanmukh Sundaram, MS Dhoni filed a contempt petition against Sampath Kumar on October 11 regarding the court order. MS Dhoni had said that Sampat Kumar is trying to tarnish his image regarding spot fixing. The successful captain of the Indian team, MS Dhoni, had demanded Rs 100 crore from the court as compensation.
High Court sentenced Sampat Kumar
Today, on December 15, Madras High Court, keeping in mind all the evidence and witnesses, has sentenced IPS officer G Sampath Kumar to 15 days imprisonment in the contempt of court case filed by MS Dhoni. However, a division bench of Justices S S Sundar and Sundar Mohan suspended the sentence for 30 days to give Sampat Kumar an opportunity to file an appeal against the sentence.
