After ignoring Iyer and Ishan, Saha said, nothing can be done ‘by force’

Kolkata: Veteran Indian wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha on Thursday said that nothing can be ‘forced’ if a cricketer does not want to play domestic cricket. However, he said that domestic cricket is the base and every player should give it enough importance to move ahead.
Saha’s reaction came after Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer were left out of the list of centrally contracted players for the 2023-24 season on Wednesday. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had said in a statement that the names of Ishan and Iyer were not considered.
Regarding the exclusion of Ishan and Iyer, Saha said, “It is the decision of the BCCI and the personal decision of the players concerned.” You cannot do anything by force.” Both these players were part of the Indian team till recently. Both were also part of the team in the 50-over World Cup last year. Ishan was last part of the Test team during India’s tour of South Africa in December while Iyer played the first two Tests of the ongoing series against England.
Giving his own example, Saha said that a cricketer should give equal importance to every match. “I play whenever I am fit, I even played club matches, office matches,” he said. I always take a match as a match. For me all matches are equal. If every player thinks like this then they will only prosper in their career and it will also be better for Indian cricket. Saha, meanwhile, described the batting of young wicketkeeper batsman Dhruv Jurel as ‘excellent’. Jurel played a brilliant innings of 46 runs on his debut in the third Test and then scored 90 and 39 runs in the fourth Test in Ranchi, which earned him the player of the match award. He said, “I have never seen him (Jurel) play in domestic cricket, even in Test matches I have seen highlights of his innings but his batting is excellent, he won the last Test for the team.” =
