Panaji (Uttam Hindu News): Former world No. 1 archer and Arjuna awardee Deepika Kumari has flagged India’s sporting ambitions on the world stage for over a decade.
Deepika, a multiple-time Olympian and two-time World Championship medalist, stayed away from archery for a long time after giving birth to daughter Vedika in December 2022.
The 29-year-old, representing Jharkhand, showed that the long gap has not dulled her hunger as she defeated Haryana’s Sangeeta 6-2 to win the recurve women’s individual gold and the mixed team gold with Mirnal Chauhan.
After this, she along with Deepti Kumari and Komalika Bari won the silver medal for the women’s team.
After the final, Deepika said, “To be honest, gold was not the priority, but my performance was. My mindset was not about winning or losing. It was about me doing my best. I wanted to focus on my shots and quiet the other thoughts going on in my mind. This is something that will help me mentally in the future as well.”
Talking about how much her life has changed after becoming a mother, Deepika said, “This new life has not been an easy transition for me. This is a 360-degree change.”
