AHMEDABAD: The woman, Dr Vaishali Joshi, 32, was found dead on Wednesday afternoon on a bench in the Gaekwad Haveli complex, which houses the Ahmedabad city crime branch. He had recently opened a clinic in the city. Police sources linked his death to B K Khachar, crime branch police inspector of the economic offenses wing of the city crime branch. He also said that there was a possibility that he had injected himself with poison. Joshi, originally from Dabheri village in Kheda district, had reportedly been trying to contact Khachar for two weeks.
Crime branch sources said she may have been involved in a relationship with the inspector and had issued an ultimatum that she would take her life if the PI did not meet her. While Khachar was not available for comment, his senior DCP Bharti Pandya also could not be contacted. On Khachar’s possible involvement, police inspector R H Bhati said, “The case is under investigation, and we cannot speculate on anyone’s involvement at this stage.”
Joshi’s body was spotted by a passerby at the crime branch complex in the Gaikwad mansion complex, near the entrance of the Vasant-Rajab memorial, between 4 pm and 4.30 pm. The police were immediately alerted and an ambulance was called. After postmortem the body was handed over to his family. Joshi is survived by his widowed mother, two elder sisters (one settled abroad) and a younger sister.
The Aadhaar card recovered from him helped officials trace his relatives. A switched off mobile phone has also been recovered from the spot. Sources said a slight prick mark was seen near his ankle. Inspector Bhati said, “Police will file a complaint against Khachar on Thursday for abetment of suicide.”
