Pinkvilla has now exclusively learned that Alia Bhatt and Karan Johar are taking their collaboration forward and have already worked on their 12th project together.

Sources tell us that Alia will next be doing an action thriller for Dharma Productions, which she has never attempted before. The yet untitled project is a prison break story, directed by Vasan Bala, known for critically acclaimed films like Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota and Monica, O My Darling. The film is currently in the pre-production stage and is expected to go on floors around September this year.

A source close to the project told Pinkvilla Vasan Bala is known for his distinctive storytelling and unconventional narratives. His film opposite Alia Bhatt also promises to be a fresh and unique cinematic experience for Hindi audiences. Alia will be seen playing one of the most challenging roles of her career in this film. And she’s excited to embark on this new adventure and explore a genre she hasn’t tried before. Bala has written a tremendous jailbreak story, and those who know about the project are already excited about it.

Alia Bhatt is expected to start shooting for this film in September 2023 and soon after wrapping it up, she will leave for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Baiju Bawra, which is scheduled to begin production in February 2024. Next, Alia is all set to join YRF Spy Universe. She is the first female super-agent to have a standalone spy film of her own. However, the espionage thriller is still in the development stage and will roll out only in the second half of 2024.
