Almond Benefits For Diabetes: A study has claimed that eating almonds regularly can improve both body weight and blood sugar in overweight and obese people. Research published in the journal “Frontiers in Nutrition” found that eating almonds daily for 12 weeks reduced insulin resistance, improved pancreatic function and helped control blood sugar levels.
Weight reduced by eating almonds, cholesterol also reduced
Researchers said that the group that was given almonds had significant reductions in body weight, body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference, and their total cholesterol also decreased. “Both body weight and blood sugar improved in people who ate almonds,” said Viswanathan Mohan, president and head of the Chennai-based Madras Diabetes Research Foundation. Obesity is a common health problem and we know that obesity increases the risk of diseases like type 2 diabetes. We also know that this is a complex problem, which is closely related to diabetes and we think we have identified a simple solution.
People who eat almonds have better levels of total cholesterol and triglycerides
The researchers also found that people who ate almonds had better levels of total cholesterol and triglycerides. Both are very important to manage obesity and diabetes.
Research on 400 participants aged 25-65
The study was conducted on 400 participants aged 25-65 who had a body mass index greater than 23 kilograms per square meter (kg/m2). The researchers used the World Health Organisation’s BMI guidelines for the Western Pacific region, which state that more than 23 kg/m2 is overweight and more than 25 kg/m2 is obesity.
