Mumbai : Amar Singh Chamkila is an extraordinary film that has the potential to achieve the status of a cult film. It has the power to write OTT history. This is a film that will be loved by the audience for years. Netflix, Window Seat Films, Select Media Holdings LLP and Saregama’s Amar Singh Chamkila is the biopic of Punjab’s most popular singer. It depicts the life of famous Punjabi singer Amar Singh Chamkila from his childhood to his rise to superstardom as a singer and his murder.

The play is shown in flashback when Chamkila and his wife are shot, but the flashback is shown from the viewpoint of multiple people simultaneously. Imtiaz Ali and Sajid Ali keep the audience engaged in the drama right from the start as they adopt a warm style that brings out Chamkila’s personality while also maintaining a certain curiosity about the incident. His complete confidence in himself and his ‘ego’ as a singer is coupled with his simplicity and practical behaviour; His adventurous nature is shown to go hand in hand with his extreme fear of losing his life and/or his superstardom; His mischievousness, evident in his obscene songs, and his straightforwardness in his behavior present peculiar characteristics in one person. But all of these are so beautifully written that one cannot help but admire the screenplay.

The love story of Amar Singh and Amarjot (Parineeti Chopra) is written so subtly that it becomes a pleasurable experience to watch the budding romance which eventually culminates in their marriage. It’s good to see the shiny chase the money, yet remain down to earth, fully aware that he can mow as long as the sun shines.

Imtiaz Ali and Sajid Ali’s dialogues are excellent and heart touching. Diljit Dosanjh has done such a great job in the lead role that it seems as if he was born for this role. He lives every moment and plays the character in such a way that the audience is eager to forgive him for his mistakes. The honesty and integrity in his acting is of a completely different level. The actor who gave a new dimension to this excellent acting is too much to be praised for. It would not be an exaggeration to say that he is an encyclopedia of acting in himself. Parineeti Chopra has done an excellent job as Amarjot.

Anjum Batra has given a memorable performance as Amar Singh’s best friend Tiki. Anurag Arora has done wonders as Police Inspector Dalbir Singh. Robbie Johal is excellent as Amar Singh’s friend Kikar. Samuel John is lovely in the role of Chamkila’s father. Jasmeet Singh Bhatia and Manoj Kumar Saha have played the roles of Dalbir Singh’s two constables very well. Pranab Vashishtha (as Pamma) and Pavneet Singh (as Babbu) have provided excellent support. Apinderdeep Singh shines as Income Tax officer Swarn Singh Sivia. Kul Sidhu is a natural fit as Gurmail Kaur, Amar Singh’s first wife. Nisha Banu has had her moments as singer Sonia. Ankit Sagar is brilliant as Kashmiri Lal, Sonia’s husband and secretary.

Anjali Sharma and Prabhjot Kaur make their presence felt as Amarjot’s sisters. Udaybir Sandhu looks handsome and is impressive as Jeetendra Zinda. Sahiba Bali is lovely as the female journalist who interviews Chamkila. Gurteg Singh is endearing as little Amar Singh. Mohit Chauhan leaves a mark in a special role. Kumud Mishra makes an impact in a special role. Rahul Mitra has had his moments as DSP Bhatti. Tushar Dutt is good as Dhakkan. Amritpal Singh and Neeta Jhanjhi, who played the role of Amarjot’s parents, have given excellent support. Jashn Kohli leaves a good impression as Amarjot’s brother Pappu. Navdeep Singh and Mausam Sharma are adequate as the fanatics who visit Chamkila’s house.

Angad Singh, Ajay Madhok and Malkit Rowney are impressive as radicals in Canada. Mahavir Bhullar is good in the role of a fundamentalist in a religious organization in Amritsar. Ashok Kumar, Vipin Katyal and Gurpreet Singh are naturals as the rival singers. Mandeep Singh as Manku, Rajinder Singh (as Ahuja) and Sukhpal Singh (as Moga’s shopkeeper) are good. Other artists have given good cooperation. Overall, Amar Singh Chamkila is an extraordinary film that has the potential to achieve the status of a cult film. It has the power to write OTT history. This is a film that will be loved by the audience for years.

Dainik Savera gives a rating of 4 stars to Times News Media Network Chamkila.
