Shooters Isha Singh and Shiva Narwal enthralled the Indian camp by winning the gold medal in the 10m air pistol mixed team event at the ISSF World Championships here on Friday. The Indian pair defeated Turkish pair of Ilayda Tarhan and Yusuf Dikech 16-10 in the final of the event to take the country’s medal tally to two.
At the same time, India is currently running at the second position in the table by winning one gold and one bronze medal. While China is on top with five gold and two bronze medals. The Indians performed brilliantly in the qualification round. In which Isha scored 290 and Narwal scored 293. Their total score of 583 helped them top the qualification round and the Turkish pair finished second with a total of 581.
With this, China and Iran scored the same 580 points but thanks to the ‘inner 10’, China qualified for the finals in third place. But India’s rifle shooters put up a disappointing performance in the 10m air rifle mixed team event, failing to even cross the qualification stage. The pair of Mehuli Ghosh (316.0) and Aishwarya Pratap Singh Tomar (314.2) shot a total of 630.2 to finish ninth in the qualification round. The other Indian pair of Ramita (313.7) and Divyansh Singh Panwar (314.6) shot a total of 628.3 to finish 17th among 77 teams. Only the top four teams in the competition can qualify for the finals.
The Chinese pair of Huang Yuting and Sheng Lihao topped the qualification with a score of 632.7. The Chinese pair won the gold medal by defeating Iran 16–2, while France won the bronze medal by defeating Israel 17–9. This made China five gold medals. In the women’s skeet event, the team of Parinaz Dhaliwal (118), Ganemat Sekhon (118) and Darsha Rathore (115) shot 351 to finish fourth behind bronze medalists Slovakia (359).
The United States opened its account by winning the gold medal in this event, while Italy won the silver medal. India had won the team bronze medal in the men’s 10m air pistol event on Thursday.
