New Delhi: Praising queen of tunes Lata Mangeshkar, Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan shared an anecdote about how his father Harivansh Rai Bachchan used to describe Lata Mangeshkar. Host of the quiz-based reality show Kaun Banega Crorepati Season 15, Big B started the episode by saying: ‘I, Amitabh Tej Bachchan, present another enlightening, rewarding and gorgeous episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati. In episode 36 of the show, Amitabh welcomed Deepak Sahajwani from Surat, Gujarat on the hot seat. An audio question was asked to the contestant for Rs 5,000. The song Piya Tose Naina Laage was played. The question was: Identify the singer of this song. The options given were – Anuradha Paudwal, Lata Mangeshkar, Geeta Dutt and Alka Yagnik. The correct answer was Lata Mangeshkar. The Don actor further said: ‘This song is from the film Guide. The composer is Sachin Dev Burman. The lyricist was Shailendra.’ Contestant said: ‘She was my mother’s favorite singer.’
Amitabh said, ‘Wonderful artist. I am not sure whether the current generation has heard this song or not. Lata ji has sung it very beautifully. As soon as the song starts, you come to know that it is Lata ji.’ The contestant said, ‘Sir, I still remember, when I was at home. My mother loved listening to songs. Lata Mangeshkar was his favorite singer. Whenever I listen to Lata ji’s songs, I remember my mother.’ On this, Big B said, I once asked my father what he liked most about her. My father said, his voice like flowing honey.
‘Once, I had to talk about him in a show, and I said, our neighboring countries, often say this while praising us, our country has everything you do, except two things, the Taj. Mahal and Lata Mangeshkar’. September 28 was the 94th birth anniversary of Lata Mangeshkar.
