Animal BO Collection Day 3: Earned Rs 360 crore worldwide, broke this record of Shahrukh Khan

Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Ranbir Kapoor-starrer Animal has turned out to be an unprecedented success story, breaking several records at the box office on Sunday despite receiving mixed negative reviews from all quarters. During the day, the action also surpassed the three-day collection of Siddharth Anand’s Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Pathan, though it fell short of the record set by Atlee Kumar’s Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Jawan. After Jawan, Animal emerged as the second film of the year to enter the Rs 200 crore club in India and Rs 350 crore club worldwide within three days. On its third day in theatres, Animal earned Rs 72.50 crore in the domestic market, marking an 8.5 per cent increase in daily box office earnings compared to the previous day, according to early estimates from industry tracker Sacknilk. Thus, Animal’s three-day domestic net collection reached Rs 202.57 crore, slightly lower than Jawan’s Rs 206.06 crore and much higher than Pathan’s Rs 166.75 crore. According to trade analyst Ramesh Bala, the worldwide gross collection of Animal is Rs 360 crore. He tweeted, “In 3 day opening weekend, Animal collects a whopping ₹360 crore at WW box office.” This year’s highest-grossing film Jawan earned Rs 384.6 crore in the first three days, while ‘Pathan’ earned Rs 313 crore. Although the film’s first Sunday domestic net collection surpassed that of ‘Pathan’ (Rs 60.75 crore), it could not break Jawan’s Rs 80.1 crore. However, Anil Sharma’s Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel-starrer Gadar 2, which was considered a historic hit, also collected only Rs 51.7 crore on its first Sunday in theatres. It remains to be seen whether Animal will be able to overtake Pathan (Rs 26.5 crore), Jawan (Rs 32.92 crore) and Gadar 2 (Rs 38.7 crore) in Monday’s test. On Sunday, Animal witnessed an overall occupancy of 79.05 percent in the Hindi market. Initially, during the morning shows, the film got 65.53% occupancy in the Hindi market. However, as the day opened, the percentage steadily increased, rising to 84.58 during the afternoon show and 86.42 during the evening show. The percentage dropped slightly during night screening and stood at 79.66. While Animal is breaking box office records, the film is also facing intense scrutiny for misogyny, violence and obscenity, with a section of the audience criticizing it.
