Mumbai: Well-known Bollywood character actor Anupam Kher turned 69 today. Anupam Kher was born on 07 March 1955 in Shimla. His father Pushkar Nath was a Kashmiri Pandit, he was a clerk by profession. Since childhood, he aspired to become an actor. After completing his graduation, he joined the National School of Drama. After completing his acting studies from the National School in 1978, he joined theatre. In the 80s, he moved to Mumbai with the dream of becoming an actor. As an actor, he got a chance to work in the film ‘Aagaman’ released in the year 1982, but after the failure of the film, he could not succeed in making his mark in the film industry.

In the year 1984, Anupam Kher got the opportunity to work in Mahesh Bhatt’s film ‘Saaransh’. In this film, he played the role of an old father whose son dies untimely. Anupam won the hearts of the audience by playing his character with sincerity. He was also honored with the Filmfare Award for Best Actor. In the year 1986, he got the opportunity to work as a villain in Subhash Ghai’s film ‘Karma’. In this film, acting emperor Dilip Kumar was opposite her, but Anupam Kher was successful in winning the hearts of the audience with his strong acting. After the success of the film, he was successful in making his mark as a villain.

To change the uniformity in his acting and also to establish himself as a character actor, Anupam Kher changed his roles. In this sequence, he played the role of father of film actress Madhuri Dixit in Subhash Ghai’s superhit film ‘Ram Lakhan’, released in 1989. He was also awarded the Filmfare Award for Best Comedian for his strong acting in the film. In the year 1989, another important film of Anupam Kher’s cine career ‘Daddy’ was released. He mesmerized the audience by playing his emotional character in the film in a composed style. For his powerful acting, he was awarded the Filmfare Critics Award and the Special Jury Award of the National Award.

Anupam Kher also entered the field of film direction through the film ‘Om Jai Jagdish’ released in 2003. However, the film proved to be a miserable failure at the ticket window. In the year 2005, Anupam Kher produced the film ‘Maine Gandhi Ko Nahi Mara’. He was honored with an award at the Karachi International Film Festival for his strong acting in this film. He has also shown his acting skills in many Hollywood films. In the 2000s, Anupam also turned to the small screen considering the audience’s choice and entertained the audience by working as the host of ‘Say Na Something to Anupam Uncle’ and ‘Sawaal Dus Crore Ka’.

In the year 2007, along with his friend Satish Kaushik, Anupam established Karog Bagh Production Company under the banner of which ‘Tere Sang’ was produced. He has been awarded the Filmfare Award eight times in his cine career. After playing many roles in films, Anupam also became the Chairman of the National Censor Board. Apart from this, he worked as a director in the National School of Drama from 2001 to 2004. In view of his remarkable contribution in the film field, Anupam Kher was also honored with Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan. He worked in approximately 500 films in his four decade long film career. Even today, he is enthusiastically active in the film industry.
