His father Pushkar Nath was a Kashmiri Pandit, he was a clerk by profession. Since childhood, he aspired to become an actor. After completing his graduation, he joined the National School of Drama. After completing his acting studies from the National School in 1978, he joined theatre. In the 80s, he moved to Mumbai with the dream of becoming an actor. In the year 1984, Anupam Kher got the opportunity to work in Mahesh Bhatt’s film ‘Saaransh’. In this film, he played the role of an old father whose son dies untimely. Anupam won the hearts of the audience by playing his character with sincerity. He was also honored with the Filmfare Award for Best Actor. In the year 1986, he got the opportunity to work as a villain in Subhash Ghai’s film ‘Karma’. In this film, acting emperor Dilip Kumar was opposite her, but Anupam Kher was successful in winning the hearts of the audience with his strong acting.
