Director Abbas-Mustan has made many popular Bollywood films which are still very much liked. The director started his career in Bollywood in the early 1990s. He worked in many genres including comedy, thriller, suspense and even romance. One of his films that still stands out is Baazigar (1993) starring Shah Rukh Khan. Apart from Shahrukh, Kajol and Shilpa Shetty were seen in this film.
These 4 stars were also offered
The film added a feather to the popularity of Shah Rukh Khan. But do you know his role was offered to four big actors. When Akshay Kumar was offered the role, he declined as he did not want to take the risk of playing a negative character. According to reports, this role was also offered to Arbaaz Khan, Anil Kapoor and Salman Khan. Anil Kapoor and Arbaaz Khan must have also felt that playing a negative role would tarnish their hero image.
Salman Khan had made this disclosure
Shah Rukh’s role was also closely watched by Salman Khan and his father Salim Khan. He advised Abbas-Mustan to make the mother’s angle a little more emotional so that the character of the main villain could soften a bit. Salman Khan had earlier talked about this in The Kapil Sharma Show. He said, “When the shooting of the film was over, they (Abbas-Mustan) called me and said that you had given the idea of Maa and we are adding it to the film. Thank you very much.”
Why Shahrukh Khan chose negative character
After Baazigar was rejected by four Bollywood actors, what did Shah Rukh Khan see in the role that made him agree to play the part? In an earlier interview with Spotlight, King Khan had said, “I agreed to do a role that many actors refused to do because I felt I wasn’t good looking enough to be the hero. So why can’t he play the role of a villain?”
