According to a report in ETimes, Dhrupad singer Ustad Wasifuddin Dagar has alleged that the tune of the song ‘Veera Raja Veera’ from ‘Ponniyin Selvan 2’ has been taken from his father and uncle’s Shiva praise. However, reports state that the makers of the film have denied all the allegations and that the production house, Madras Talkies, has also rubbished the allegations. Said that ‘Veera Raja Veera’ is not a copy of Dagar Brothers’ tune.
Uproar over ‘Veera Raja Veera’
As per reports, Wasifuddin is allegedly doing the ruckus for money and publicity. Madras Talkies further claimed that ‘Veera Raja Veera’ is a traditional tune, composed by Narayana Panditacharya in the 13th century. Reportedly, Wasifuddin sent a letter to Rahman, claiming that Madras Talkies and the maverick musician should have taken his permission and they didn’t. The letter reads, ‘The writing has been lifted and sung in the same Tandav style. Only the words have been changed.

‘Ponniyin Selvan 2’, featuring Vikram, Aishwarya Rai, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Trisha, Sobhita Dhulipala and Prakash Raj, is based on writer Kalki Krishnamurthy’s popular 1955 Tamil novel of the same name. The film was made by Mani Ratnam in two parts. While the first part released in 2022, the second part released a few days ago and is doing better at the box office.
