AR Rahman recently talked about his relationship with spirituality at an event. He shared how he deals with emotionally challenging times and credited his mother for teaching him how to handle dark thoughts. He also revealed how he struggled with suicidal thoughts.

AR Rahman is battling suicidal thoughts

AR Rahman discusses his life and career while speaking to students at the Oxford Union Debating Society. During the program, he discussed his approach to dealing with emotionally difficult moments and acknowledged his mother’s influence in guiding him through dark thoughts. Additionally, he also opened up about his struggle to overcome suicidal thoughts. He said, “When I was young, I used to have suicidal thoughts, so my mother used to say, ‘When you live for others, you will not have these thoughts’. This is the most beautiful thing I got from my mother. That’s one of the tips.”

The musician also spoke about the importance of living for others, a lesson he learned from his mother. Rahman said, “When you live for others, and you are not selfish, your life has a meaning. I take it very seriously, whether you are composing for someone, for something. Whether you’re writing for someone, buying a meal for someone who can’t afford it, or simply making someone smile when you see them, these are the things that keep us going. Together. Well, we have limited knowledge of our future. There may be something extraordinary waiting for you. If you have all these things, and hope, that’s what keeps me going. Sometimes, I feel as if I’ve done it all, that I’m in a cycle of repetition, and then you realize there’s a bigger role for you.”

Answering the question why he doesn’t talk more about spiritualism, Rahman said that everyone experiences dark times and it is important to remember that life is a short journey. The Oscar-winning composer said “There are tough times for all of us. One thing’s for sure; it’s a short journey in this world. We were born, and we’re going to go. This is no permanent place for us. Where we’re going to go, We don’t know.

He believes that this approach gives meaning to life and takes it forward. Apart from composing music, Rahman also sees himself contributing to society through education and mentoring the younger generation. AR Rahman last composed the music for the Hindi film ‘Pippa’, starring Ishaan Khattar and Mrunal Thakur.
