Ashwin created a new world record for taking most wickets on Indian soil

Ranchi: Today, on the third day of the fourth Test match being played between India and England at JSCA Cricket Ground, Ranchi, R. Ashwin created a new world record for taking most wickets on Indian soil.
Ashwin has created this new record by taking 354 wickets in his 59 Test matches played in India. Earlier, the record of taking most wickets on Indian soil was in the name of Anil Kumble who had taken a total of 350 wickets in 63 Test matches. Ashwin today equaled India’s Anil Kumble by taking five wickets in an innings of a Test match for the 35th time.
Anil Kumble had also accomplished the feat of taking 5 wickets 35 times in an innings of a Test match. In world cricket, the record of taking more 5 wickets in an innings than Ashwin is now in the names of Richard Hadlee, Shane Warne and Muttiah Muralidhar. Hadlee had achieved the feat of taking 5 wickets in an innings 36 times, Shane Warne 37 times and Muttiah Muralitharan 67 times.
Anil Kumble had taken 619 wickets in his total of 132 Test matches, while Ashwin has taken 507 wickets in 99 Test matches so far. The fifth cricket test match between India and England will be played in Dharamshala from March 7 and this will be Ashwin’s 100th test match.
