Indian athlete Annu Rani became the first Indian woman to win a gold medal in javelin throw at the Asian Games. On Tuesday, Annu Rani won the historic gold medal in javelin throw with her season best throw of 62.92 meters. Rani won the gold medal in women’s javelin throw with a season’s best of 62.92 meters in her fourth attempt. Nadeesha Dilhan of Sri Lanka won the silver medal.
Mohammad Afzal gave silver medal to the country
Mohammad Afzal won the silver medal in the men’s 800 meter race with a timing of 1 minute 48.43 seconds. Earlier, Vithya Ramraj could not give her best performance but despite this she was successful in winning the bronze medal in the women’s 400 meter hurdles event. Twenty-five year old Vithya finished third with a timing of 55.68 seconds. Bahrain’s Oluwakemi Mujidat Adekoya won the gold medal with a Games record time of 54.45 seconds. China’s Jadei Mo won the silver medal with her season’s best performance of 55.01 seconds.
Vithya equaled PT Usha’s national record
On Monday, Vithya had qualified for the finals by topping her heat by equaling PT Usha’s 400m hurdles national record set in 1984 with a personal best performance of 55.52 seconds. Vithya was also part of India’s 4x400m mixed relay team that won a silver medal on Monday after Sri Lanka was disqualified due to ‘lane violation’. Other members of the team were Mohammed Ajmal Variyathodi, Rajesh Ramesh and Subha Venkatesan.
